The first direct flight between Los Angeles and Athens, Greece is set to launch this summer, connecting directly Greece and California.
The new service by Norse Atlantic will commence on June 3, 2025, connecting two iconic cities with nonstop flights for the first time in aviation history.
Norse Atlantic’s new route will operate four times a week, using the modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet they operate for their transatlantic flights. The planes will depart Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Athens International Airport (ATH) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, offering travelers four days a week to choose from.
The service is expected to attract many travelers from both destinations for both leisure and business trips.
Promotional one-way fares start at 269 US dollars or 239 Euros making the journey not only direct but also much more affordable compared to the existing options with connecting flights.
The 6,928-mile flight is scheduled to last for approximately 13 hours and 30 minutes westbound and 12 hours and 40 minutes eastbound, making it the longest route in Norse Atlantic’s network right now.
The launch of this service is expected to address a significant gap in the market as the demand from Americans to visit Greece and vice-versa is rising significantly. In 2024, Los Angeles was Athens’ largest unserved US route, with more than 100,000 round-trip passengers traveling between the two cities via connections in Europe, like Frankfurt, Paris and London or the Middle East. Until now, no airline had offered a nonstop option, forcing travelers to endure layovers and extended travel times.
Norse Atlantic’s CEO and founder, Bjorn Tore Larsen, expressed recently his enthusiasm about the new route.
The introduction of a new route from Los Angeles to Athens directly will address a current gap in available services. This affordable option is expected to be well-received, providing customers with increased transatlantic travel opportunities and the exciting prospect for Americans to explore the historical wonders of Athens.
The new service is expected to boost tourism and business ties between Southern California and Greece, while also providing convenient connections to Greek islands and neighboring south-eastern European countries through Athens’ extensive regional network.
As of summer 2025, there will be a huge 103 weekly connections between Greece and the US. This is a significant expansion from previous years, driven by rising demand from American tourists to visit Europe and more specifically Greece.
These direct connections will primarily link Athens International Airport with nine major American cities, including New York City (JFK), Newark (EWR), Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Washington, D.C. (IAD), Philadelphia (PHL), Atlanta (ATL), Los Angeles (LAX), and Charlotte (CLT).
