Petros Krommidas, an emerging Long Island Democrat vying for a seat on the Nassau County Legislature, has been absent for nearly a week, as reported by authorities.
Krommidas, 29, a graduate of the esteemed Chaminade High School and former Columbia University student-athlete, was last seen in Baldwin on Wednesday night wearing a camouflage shirt and gray sweats.
His mother reported him missing on Thursday evening, with indications suggesting he may have visited the Long Beach area, a place he frequents according to family, particularly the boardwalk.
“We are deeply saddened by the disappearance of Petros Krommidas,” stated Jay Jacobs, Chairman of the Nassau County Democratic Committee.
“Petros is a talented, driven young man who has been a strong advocate for Democratic principles. He enjoys widespread respect within the community and embodies the best qualities of our next generation of leaders. Our thoughts are with Petros and his family, and we remain hopeful for his safe return.”
According to a Facebook post, just days before his disappearance, Krommidas spoke at a Nassau County Young Democrats meeting alongside Joe Scianablo, a candidate for Town of Hempstead supervisor.
He vanished during a period of heightened social engagement, actively participating in protests and rallies. Remarkably, just two days before he was last seen, Krommidas shared photos from a Long Island protest opposing Donald Trump’s policies, where he was pictured holding a placard.
His sister, Eleni, has appealed on social media for anyone with information to step forward, expressing deep concern for her missing brother.
“We are heartbroken over the disappearance of Petros Krommidas. Petros is a bright, driven young man who has been a strong voice for Democratic values. He is well respected by the community and represents the very best of our next generation of leaders. We are keeping Petros and his family in our prayers and remain hopeful for his safe return.”
Krommidas, a native Long Islander, graduated from Chaminade in 2013 and later earned degrees in American history and business management from Columbia University, where he was also a member of the rowing team. His professional background includes roles in finance at Morgan Stanley and Sageview Capital before transitioning to politics in 2024 as a Democratic Party field organizer.
His primary election is scheduled in approximately two months on June 24, with the general election set for November 4.
